Thappa: A technique as old as the early civilisations
Thappa, a technique of making trade coins in early civilisations, is basically stamping molten metal from both sides in a die. Sometimes, very thin cold metal sheets are forged with wood-carved dies or metal dies. Metal dyes carry an impression of the design, which has to be transferred onto the plain metal sheet.
Stamping (also known as pressing) is the process of placing flat sheet metal in either blank or coil form into a stamping press, where a tool and die surface form the metal into a net shape.
